Julie and Julia Movie Report

Yesterday was the first day of the movie release. We were turned away at the 7:05 PM showing (because of a sold out crowd) and at 9:50 PM my son Ben and I got in.

The movie started with a medium classic woodie-type station wagon in the quiet post-war French Countryside announcing the presence of Julia and Paul. Without giving the plot away it was a great blending of two stories. My son said it was a much better movie than he expected.

Julia’s excitement and enthusiasm for life, her husband, and food typified the same person I met many years later when fame, good fortune, and popularity where legendary.

It was early December 1980, Saturday morning at the Stillwater Cove Ranch kitchen when Julia, Paul (he had his camera ready to shoot any unique moments), and Rosie (Julia’s friend and TV show facilitator) arrived at the Ranch Kitchen. As Julia and I prep-ed at the demonstration table in the center of the large old boy’s ranch kitchen, Julia said to me ‘Isn’t this fun? We have all this food and get to cook it all weekend!’ During that moment and all the other moments of that weekend we saw the same Julia as portrayed in the movie save the Santa Barbara’s reporter’s comment at the end.
